Bafana Bafana star to face Neymar in France for Liege 1

Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri is likely to face Neymar when Guimgamp host Paris Saint-Germain in their Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday evening.

Neymar last week joined the Parisians on a record-breaking transfer fee of 222-million Euros from Barcelona, and is expected to make his debut this weekend.

Phiri, who joined Guimgamp on free transfer from Danish side Brondby last month, made his Ligue 1 debut and played the full game as they beat FC Metz 3-1 in their opening round fixture last week.

The former Bidvest Wits junior is likely to start again at the Stade Roudourou, where the much-anticipated clash is set to kick-off at 21h00 (SA time) tomorrow.

Meanwhile, PSG boss Unai Emery has said the Brazilian superstar is likely to be included in the starting line-up, provided the French FA approve his eligibility in time for the match.

“We will wait for the federation to approve that he can play, but we expect him to be in the starting line-up,” Emery said in a press conference.

“He has trained well and is starting to know his teammates. We worked with him tactically and on set-pieces. That’s why I think he is ready to play.

“If we get the approval of the league then he will be in the group and he can play. We all expect him to be in the 11 on the pitch, because we need a player like him in the team.”

Should the FA approave, it will be a momemt to savour for Phiri after he missed out on the chance to represent South Africa, who took on Neymar’s Brazil in the opening match, at the Rio Olympic games last year.
