Qarabag’s strike force could potentially consist of two South Africans next season if they get their way, with the club having targeted a teammate for Dino Ndlovu.
Ndlovu has done well in Azerbaijan in his first season as he helped the club lift the league title last month and finished the season as their top goalscorer in the league.
Now, with the club preparing for the cup final, the Siya crew has been informed that they have been so impressed with Ndlovu that they’re looking at the possibility of bringing on board his compatriot, Tokelo Rantie.
The 26-year-old forward is currently playing his football in Turkey after leaving AFC Bournemouth last year and has played 20 games for Genclerbirligi since his move.
According to Siya sources, Qarabag discussed the possibility of trying to bring ‘Dungi’ to the club ahead of the new season as they look to progress in the UEFA Champions League, although it remains to be seen whether a move could take place.
Rantie still has another season left to run on his Genclerbirligi contract and the fact that he started against Trabzonspor on Saturday suggests that he could be in the club’s plans going forward.
However, with the chance of playing in the Champions League on offer, Rantie may be tempted to make the switch if an offer is too good to refuse, but the final say will ultimately lie with his employers.
The Siya crew will continue to monitor Rantie’s situation in the coming weeks, though it is thought that contact will be made between the two clubs between now and the end of the season, as Qarabag look to bring a South African double-threat to their attack.
