Former Orlando Pirates star says he is different to the ex-Pirates captain

Teko Modise says he is a different player to Oupa Manyisa but sees no reason why the former Orlando Pirates captain cannot impress at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Manyisa recently swapped Pirates for PSL rivals Sundowns with some suggesting the offensive midfielder – who has struggled for top form since sustaining an ankle injury in September 2015 – was bought as a replacement for Modise at Chloorkop.

Modise left Downs for Cape Town City in July after a six-and-a-half-year stay with the Brazilians, ending his time with the African champions as an impact player.

The 34-year-old has seen close hand how Manyisa operates, having plied his trade for the Buccaneers from 2007 to 2011 in addition to linking up with ‘Ace’ for Bafana Bafana duty in the past.

“Me and Oupa, we’ve never been similar players, I don’t think we ever will be,” Modise tells our source.

“He’s a type of different player, I’m a different player. I don’t see him not succeeding at Sundowns, why not? I wish him all the best and just hope he will achieve whatever his objectives are and he will do well for the team.”

‘The Navigator’ declined to elaborate on how he differs as a footballer to Manyisa, who galvanised the Buccaneers engine room for much of his nine years at Mayfair.

“To be honest, I don’t like comparing myself with any footballer. I think it’s unfair if I’m gonna say certain things about me and say similar things about a different player, it’s not going to come out nice. But what I would say, I am a different player to Oupa, and Oupa is a different player.

“If we can play within the same team you will see how different we are because we play a different style of football. Even though there are similarities, I am a totally different player,” insists Modise.

Modise is in line to make his City debut in the MTN8 quarter-finals against Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday (15h00).
