Robert Ngambi leads Platinum Stars to the last 32 draw

Platinum Stars defeated AmaZulu 3-2 to secure their spot in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 thanks to goals from Goalkeeper, Mbongani Mzimela, Robert Ng’ambi and Henrico Botes. After a slow start, Gerald Phiri had an opportunity to open the scoring after 15 minute but his shot from outside the box was well saved by goalkeeper, Neil Boshoff.

AmaZulu were playing mainly on the counter-attacks. They did get an opportunity but their final pass let them down. The visitors eventually broke the deadlock after 35 minutes as Samuel Darpoh hit a low shot that sailed past Mzimela.

The sides went into the break with the National First Division outfit leading by one goal. Dikwena were awarded a penalty after the break when Vuyo Mere was brought down in the box. Stars goalkeeper, Mzimela stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Robert N’gambi the hand the home side the lead two minutes later, after some good work by Amajita midfielder, Kodisang. Boysen Mbatha leveled matters for the Durban outfit in the 64th minute, following an error from the Stars defence.

It was end-to-end attack from both sides, with both sides pushing for a winner and looking to avoid extra time. However, it was Dikwena who go the winning goal as Botes headed home Ryan De Jongh’s cross to send his side into the last 16.
