Can Pirates afford to lose him in future?

Thamsanqa Gabuza is one of the best strikers in South Africa currently. He is the only striker who has been able to score goals for both his team Orlando Pirates and the national team Bafana Bafana. He has proven to be very powerful upfront and a lot of defenders find it difficult to contain him for the entire 90 minutes.

Gabuza’s contract with Orlando Pirates expired on the 30th June 2016. He is still not sure what will happen to him as he is awaiting Orlando Pirates for contract negotiations. Gabuza has done very well provided he was not afforded full time starting spot at Orlando Pirates, but he has managed to score goals during the chances that he was given.

It sounds clear from the Orlando Pirates management that they don’t require his services anymore as they are still quiet about his new contract negotiations. As things stand at the moment, Gabuza is free to join a team of his choice and if possible he may sign an agreement contract with a team of his choice. Gabuza is currently part of Bafana Bafana squad and in the last AFCON qualifier game he scored 2 goals.

Orlando Pirates fans are divided in the Gabuza issue. There are those who still want to see Thamsanqa in the buccaneers in the next season. There also those who are saying that he is no longer needed at Pirates, although they don’t have valid reasons to support their disapproval for the prolific striker. It will not be a good thing to see Gabuza leave Pirates as the team has not yet found a prolific striker of his caliber after losing Kermit Erasmus to a French side earlier last season.

There are lot of teams in the Premier Soccer League which are very interested in acquiring the services of Thamsanqa Gabuza. Currently he is just awaiting the Pirates management to either give him a new contract or to officially release him for his next destination. It shows that the striker values Orlando Pirates more than any other team in the PSL as he is still awaiting them even when his contract has already expired.

Pirates must not take longer than a week if they are still interested in the striker. The man has done all that was expected of his at the team and has helped the team in a lot of occasions where getting a goal was very difficult. He has been part of the Pirates squad for the last PSL season and the CAF competitions. He was their leading goal scorer in the CAF Confederations Cup and a lot of teams were interested in signing him including Zamalek and Al Ahly of Egypt.

If not needed anymore by Pirates, Gabuza will definitely get a team to play for in the next PSL season and that will not be a problem to find a team. The striker will be a great loss to Orlando Pirates if the decided against signing him again. Pirates needs him more than any team in the PSL as they do not have a target centre forward in their current crop of strikers. We are all awaiting the next move for Thamsanqa Gabuza.
