Mamelodi Sundowns are considering the option of exercising the 2 year extension that they are entitled to on his contract. It has been reported that Castro will be leaving Sundowns at the end of June to return to his native Columbia. The prolific striker is said to be unhappy he is away from home and does not want Sundowns to exercise the option of his contract extension.
Sundowns are not ready to just let Castro leave while they are still expecting a lot from him. The striker is one of the key players in the Sundowns team. He has been banging goals left and right along with fellow partners Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly. Sundowns also registered him for the CAF Champions League that they are currently taking part in. He even scored in their first goal against Enyimba FC of Nigeria in their encounter at Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night. Sundowns managed to collect 3 points in their campaign.
With Ramahlwe Mphahlele already left for Chiefs, Sundowns are not ready to lose another key player. They are looking forward to continue with the good run from last year in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and their current CAF competition. Castro is one of the reasons Sundowns won the PSL and filling his position would seem a bit difficult for Sundowns as his role was specially created for his abilities to read the game very well.
Castro’s name is one of the first names on Coach Pitso Mosimane’s lineups during Sundowns’ matches. He has proven to be one of the best strikers in the PSL and he has an eye for goals. He can score from nothing and that makes him a first option for the centre forward at Sundowns. He has formed an understanding with Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly which most teams find it difficult to contain. The 3 of them are headaches to a lot of defenders in the league and if one of them leaves, it will be a disaster for Sundowns.
Sundowns has recently signed a Brazilian defender and many people are saying that the reason for that move was because they have been looking for someone who will be close to Castro as he has difficulties in the English language. The Brazilian defender was signed to make Castro feel at home at Sundowns. A lot of people are hoping that Castro would stay at Sundowns.
Pitso Mosimane’s contract has been extended by more 4 years meaning that he will be Mamelodi Sundowns coach until 2020. He impressed the club boss Mr. Patrice Motsepe and the 2 are known to be very close. Mosimane will do all he can to make sure he retains the services of Castro. Mosimane is a coach who believes in continuity and gives all his players enough chances to test the combinations that can make Sundowns tick. He has found a great combination in Castro, Billiat and Dolly, so it will be difficult for him to start all over again as it is very difficult to put together a combination of such importance.
We hope Sundowns and Castro will be able to solve their problem and we look forward to see Castro playing for the yellow nation for 2 more seasons. There is no doubt Castro has added value to the Premier Soccer League and South African football as a whole.
Sundowns are interested in keeping Castro for the next 3 seasons if possible.
