Record-winning Absa Premiership winner Daine Klate says preparations are already well underway ahead of the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
Fresh off the back of helping Wits claim their maiden top-flight league trophy, the six-time PSL gold medallist, who is up for the MTN8 Player of the Tournament award at Monday night’s PSL awards ceremony, says the Clever Boys are already hard at work as they look forward to defending their crown.
“We are working very, very hard,” he told the media ahead of Monday night’s awards ceremony. “We don’t really like pre-season, but it has to be done. A good pre-season gives you a good season, so it’s another pre-season for me at Wits – the hard work has started, and we are looking forward to the start of the new season.”
Meanwhile Wits coach Gavin Hunt, who is up for the Coach of the Season award, feels club accolades far exceed individual gongs, and joked about his plans ahead of this coming season’s title defence.
“Winning two trophies in one season has never been achieved before and is a big achievement for the club,” he said. “So individual awards come second – the more we can win trophies as a club, the more you’ll get individual awards, so that’s important for us going forward.
“How do we become better than this season? That’s a secret!”
