First coach going to be sacked in the PSL

As the Premier Soccer League (PSL) 2016/17 season has just started, a lot of things have already happened and a lot of problems have already been identified by football fans around the country. The big 2 of Soweto are the ones on a lot of people’s discussions. Orlando Pirates started their campaign with a win against Golden Arrows, while Chiefs started their campaign with a loss against Bidvest Wits.

On their MT8 campaign, both Soweto teams lost their games in the quarterfinals, which did not go well with fans of both teams. A lot of Kaizer Chiefs fans are blaming their coach Steve Komphela while others are blaming the management for signing average players. On the other hand Pirates fans are also divided as some are blaming the coach and others blaming the goalkeeper Felipe Ovono.

Coaching Chiefs and Pirates comes with a lot of pressure from fans as these teams are the most supported teams in the country and other neighboring countries. A lot of coaches who coached these teams left the teams due to fans not happy about the teams’ performance.

Steve Komphela of Kaizer Chiefs is under a lot of pressure as the team finished last season without a trophy and in a position that shows that the team was not near challenging for the league title. To make matters worse, the team has lost 2 games in the new season, one in the league and another one in the MTN8 competition. Fans are asking for his sacking and Chiefs management is under a lot of pressure about the situation.

In the 2 loses, Steve said the following on national television “well we lost due to the fact that the players failed to implement the instructions and they did not know what to do under pressure. We lost but there is still a lot to work on for the team to play well”.

His counterpart at Pirates Muhsin Ertugral said the following after their win against Golden Arrows “a lot is still going to happen in the team and I can promise fans that they will see the best of Orlando Pirates in this new season. We are not there yet but slowly we are getting there”.

After the loss against Bidvest, Muhsin said “people should stop blaming Ovono for the goals we conceded, we conceded as a team and the team was not performing according to the expectations. Blaming a certain player after a loss is not good at all and people should learn to respect players”.

As things stand considering the comments by both Chiefs and Pirates coaches, fans are not happy at all and they are asking for both coaches to be released. Chiefs’ fans are asking for the return of Stuart Baxter, while Pirates fans are asking for Rudi Krol’s return to the team.

It won’t be long when one or both coaches are shown the door at these teams if the performances of both teams do not improve. Even if they improve, they are expected to win trophies at these teams. Currently Mamelodi Sundowns are enjoying being the best team in the country without any challenge expected from these 2 Soweto teams.
