Former Orlando Pirates captain’s annual festival is growing in uMfolozi

The annual Siyabonga Sangweni Festival in uMfolozi has grown substantially and no longer only caters to the football community.

Other sporting codes to receive prominence are: netball, motor racing, chess, cross country, rugby, quad biking and mountain climbing, while there is also E-gaming, a career expo, fashion shows, lectures, comedy acts and poetry recitals among other activities lined up at the expanded four-day event.

The uMfolozi Municipality-supported extravaganza kicked off with an empowerment programme for women called Intombi Project.

Former Orlando Pirates captain Sangweni, who called time on his playing career in April 2016, started the festival in 2013 to promote youth development and address social ills.

Sangweni is hosting a number of PSL players at the event, with musical acts such as Distruction Boyz roped in to entertain the crowds.

The festival started on Thursday and will run until Sunday at the Dondotha Sports Fields in KwaZulu-Natal.
