Free State Stars strengths and weaknesses

Free State Stars was one of the best teams in the Premier Soccer league in the 2015/2016 PSL season. The team has been relegated a few times from the PSL to the NFD and last month there were speculations that the team has been sold to Moroka Swallows. The deal fell through in the last minute and now the team has to play again in the PSL. All in all the team also transferred a lot of quality players as a result of the speculated sale of the team. Their top quality players has already signed for their new clubs and it will not be possible for them to return to the Free State outfit. Let us look at the current team’s strengths and weaknesses.

Using the squad which played last season, the team’s strengths were in their midfielders and strikers. The midfield of Free State Stars was filled with top quality players who were capable of beating any team in the league. The likes of Lucky Mohomi, Japhta, Danny Venter, Ayanda Nkosi, and the rest of the guys were very strong tactically. They were skillful and very fast with the ball. The team was meant for great heights until the sale disturbance.

Their strikers were capable of scoring goals left and right. Before the injury of the Belgian Andrea Fileccia, Free State Stars were very dangerous in front of goals. Fileccia is capable of scoring goals from any position and if fully fit he will be helpful to rebuild the confidence of the team in order to have a successful season in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

In general the team will be treated as a new team in the PSL as the players are still new and trying to get together to form combinations and unity before the start of the season. The team managers have a difficult job ahead. To encourage the team and the players to do their best is not an easy job and the management must be ready for any shortfall.

Judging by the release of top quality players at the team, the team is in a phase of rebuilding, so their weaknesses will include lack of confidence, they will also be scared to make mistakes, and the most importantly, they will have difficulty against established opponents like Mamelodi Sundowns.

This team might even face relegation by the end of 2016/2017 season. To destabilize a tam and try to stabilize the same team again is very difficult especially in the professional ranks.

If anything should happen to this team, the management should be blamed not players. They are not sure whether to run a professional side or not, and that confuses the most important part of the team, which is the players. If players can see that the management does not have any sort of vision for the team, it becomes very difficult to be motivated as they are not sure whether they will have their jobs the following day.

Solution to their weaknesses

The team management should hire psychologists to come and help the players as they are facing tough times ahead. They should also hire motivational speakers, any people who can help the team players to focus on their jobs ahead.

On the other hand, the players are ready to showcase their talent to show other PSL teams what they can do in the field of play so that they can be able to get longer contracts away from Free State Stars after the new season.
