Gaxa and Chiefs to DRC

Sibonisa Gaxa is one of the players who were released by Kaizer Chiefs Football Club at the end of the 2015/2016 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season despite Amakhosi previously announcing that the player had extended his contract until 2018. The release was not accepted by Gaxa as he was expecting to be part of Kaizer Chiefs until expiry of his contract.

Gaxa’s business manager Glyn Binkin has confirmed that his client has a date with Kaizer Chiefs at the PSL offices this Friday. The DRC will look into the matter and decide which action would be very suitable according to the contract details that both parties are in a possession of. It is believed that Gaxa’s release at Chiefs was not done properly and the correct procedure was not followed.

Siboniso Gaxa is asking for payment as per contract he has with Chiefs. On the other hand Chiefs are releasing him without any compensation and they indicated he is able to join a team of his choice from now on. The matter will be heard on Friday the 22 July 2016.

The right-back has spent the past four years with Chiefs after returning from a spell in Belgium. Since his return to South Africa, Gaxa has been a regular for Kaizer Chiefs for a few seasons and he has currently failed to impress the Chiefs technical team as the team is looking for new talent before the start of the new season.

Below are the reactions of football fans around the country regarding this issue:

“People don’t understand what Gaxa’s gripe is. His contract was renewed last year for further 2 years. Now since the club no longer wants to keep him, they terminated the contract without compensating him. The club is not putting him on transfer but is firing him therefore he should be paid the reminder of his contract”, one football fan was quoted saying.

Another fan said the following in reaction to the above comment “Pa Gaxa expects Chiefs to pay him for what? He did not deliver what he’s mandate was and he failed to command his position as a senior player, I say let this case drag on… no player is bigger than Kaizer Chiefs (Ask your drinking buddy Khune), will he then give us back those 18 points he cost us last season? Or the trophies?’’

Another fan commented hinting on Bobby Motaung, Chiefs manager “I fail to understand why that emotional clueless boss called Bobby treated these players, they could have called all the unwanted players who are still contracted to the team and explain to them that they are no longer in coach’s plans and agree on a settlement fee”.

He continued “But Bobby and his ego had placed them on transfer without talking to them about settlement or so. I guess Kaizer condones what this chap is doing as he doesn’t have a clue on how to manage the team”.

Another fan hinted “The sad part this team is labelled the most professional team in the country perhaps the word professional has a different meaning to them/him”.

One funny fan said “Gaxa is not a great footballer and I never liked him since de days of SSU and always wondered how he donned the national team jersey, played outside the border and played for Chiefs week in week out. One thing I noted about him is that he listens and have passion, he listens to instructions, and he just fails to implement them”.
