Mpho Makola is the Orlando Pirates midfielder who also plays for the South African national team Bafana Bafana. He was born and bred in Alexandra, Johannesburg. Mpho is 30 years old currently. His contract will expire on the 18th June 2018. Mpho is one of the star players at the Orlando Pirates team and has played in almost all their games unless if suspended or injured.
Mpho previously played for ASD Cape Town and Free State Stars before joining Orlando Pirates in 2012. His market value has increased significantly since participating in the CAF Champions League, Confederations Cup and being part of the South African National team. His value is estimated at around R7 million.
Before extending his contract with Pirates, Mpho was linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club where he has been monitored for a long time now. Mpho has shown his loyalty to Pirates and is one of the top earners at the club alongside Captain Oupa Manyisa.
The experience he has gained in the CAF competitions and the national team has helped him improve his tactical abilities in the midfield position he currently masters. He recently scored the only goal in a friendly match against Egypt at Orlando stadium.
Mpho was also linked to Zamalek and Al Ahly during Pirates’ CAF campaign and since Orlando Pirates was not ready to part ways with him, he stayed at the buccaneers. A lot of coaches rates Mpho very highly especially when the team is not playing well because he is the one who make sure the team performs in the middle of the park.
His ambition is to win CAF competitions with Pirates and also to win AFCON and reach the semifinals of the World Cup with Bafana Bafana. Conquering the domestic league once again like they did in 2012 and 2013 is also one of the priorities.
