Isibaya producers angry with actor

RUMOURS are spreading about the departure of hunky actor Andile Gumbi from Isibaya.

According to TV insiders, the producers ofIsibaya were angry. They had given him permission to act in an overseas stage play, provided he returned to Isibaya.

One source alleged: “When Andile came back, he was supposed to take a break from theatre and focus on Isibaya.

“Instead, he took a job in the musical King Kong and only came back to inform Bomb Production about the high-paid stage role he’d just accepted.”

A second mole claimed: “Allegations began to circulate that Andile had been fired because he missed some of his shoots and sometimes came to work drunk.

“But Andile dismissed the allegations. He told the producers he was having rehearsals in Cape Town for his new show.”

Another insider claimed actors Nomzamo Mbatha and Sdumo Mtshali had left the soapie due to poor salaries.

“They don’t pay their actors well. This was the issue with Andile.

“One person being paid well in the soapie is Siyabonga Thwala.

“In fact, Siyabonga’s role was supposed to be canned when he died the first time.

“They came up with a plan to bring him back as ‘umkhovu’ because they were pressured by viewers to bring him back. I think they’re also under pressure about Andile.

“They should come up with a strategy to revive Andile’s role,” said the source.

Post production manager at Bomb Production, Candice Tennant, said: “We are not interested in anything to do with Andile. We’re done.”

Andile did not return our calls, as he was still shooting at the time of going to print.
