Gustavo Paez’s substitution at the weekend has been scrutinised in the local fraternity, however, a source close to the incident has cleared things up to the Siya crew.
Kaizer Chiefs lifted their seventh Macufe Cup title after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 this past weekend. Paez was one of the players included in the starting line-up, although did not feature for the full 90-minutes.
Following Paez’s substitution in the encounter, the Venezuelan appeared to ignore the handshake from his head coach, Solinas, which has caused tons of controversy and uproar from the Chiefs supporters.
However, a source close to the incident confirmed to the Siya crew, that Paez did not see his head coach’s signal for a handshake, and apologized afterwards for coming across as rude and deliberately ignoring his Italian mentor.
“I asked Gustavo, he said he was looking to the ground and he didn’t see the coach. (In) the changing room someone showed the video to Gustavo and he went straight to the coach and showed it to him apologizing and the coach said to him that he was aware that he wasn’t looking, so there’s no problem about it,” the source confirmed to Soccer Laduma.
Indications are that Chiefs could be issuing a statement to the media, so as to avoid a negative speculation about the relationship between the player and the coach.
