Kaizer Chiefs had their offer for Leonardo Castro rejected by Mamelodi Sundowns, this according to Siya sources.
It was reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that Chiefs could look to complete a last minute swoop for Castro, with Siya sources indicating that Head Coach Steve Komphela is keen on the player’s services.
However, it has since been revealed to the crew that Amakhosi have since approached Masandawana for the Colombian striker, though Sundowns have rejected Chiefs’ offer for the player, this according to Siya sources.
Castro is expected back to club duty this week, with sources indicating that he left South America yesterday, August 29.
Head Coach Pitso Mosimane will look to regroup his charges after their 2-1 defeat to Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership recently and it remains to be seen whether Castro will still be part of the Sundowns setup when the domestic campaign resumes after the FIFA break.
As previously revealed by the crew, sources have indicated that Sundowns are keen on offloading the player’s services in the current transfer window period, so as to avoid losing him on a free at the end of his deal on June 30, next year.
With the player unlikely to extend his stay with Masandawana at this point, it remains to be seen whether Chiefs will look to table a better offer to Sundowns for the player, after having their first one rejected.
