Phakamani Mahlambi is hoping to play a bigger role for Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League knockout phase.
Sundowns finished second in Group A to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, edging closer to getting that second star after their success in 2016.
While he was with Egyptiant giants Al Ahly, Mahlambi hardly got an opportunity to impress in the Champions League and he now sees Sundowns’ progression to the last eight as an opportunity to make a mark on the continent.
The national under-23 attacker has made four appearances for the Brazilians in the Champions League, three of which were in the group stage.
“Yes, I look forward to that [playing in the knockout stages]. I think it’s always about making your own mark. I was there [at Al Ahly] and I did not play, but hopefully I am going to play. I’m looking forward to it, I want to do well,” the former Bidvest Wits player said.
