Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to try and land the signature of Phakamani Mahlambi from Bidvest Wits before the transfer window closes, and have 36 hours to make it happen.
The 19-year-old recently returned from a training spell in Portugal where he impressed at Vitoria de Guimaraes, however, the club decided against offering him a new contract due to the fact that they couldn’t offer him regular game time.
Now, with Mahlambi back in South Africa, the Siya crew has reported previously that Sundowns, as well as Al Ahly and two unknown UEFA Champions League clubs, are looking into the possibility of trying to sign him before the window slams shut.
Although given the fact that Masandawana are direct title rivals to the Clever Boys, and that Mahlambi is one of the brightest talents in the country at present, it will no doubt take a bumper bid from Pitso Mosimane’s side if they are to persuade Wits to let the teenager leave.
While it remains to be seen if Sundowns will engage Wits regarding a potential move for the player, they don’t have long to try and make the deal happen and at this point, there are no guarantees regarding where he will be playing his football as of September 1st.
