Orlando Pirates beat Chiefs and Sundowns for Ajax star defender

Orlando Pirates appear to be in pole position to edge their PSL rivals to the signature of a sought-after defender during this transfer window.

The Buccaneers, who have already bolstered their squad with some of the top talents in the PSL, with the likes of Kudakwashe Mahachi, Asavela Mbekile and Brilliant Khuzwayo, could be closing in on signing Mosa Lebusa, according to sources in the know.

Lebusa – the defender who is the captain of Ajax Cape Town – has been a transfer target for Pirates for three years in a row, since 2015.

Over recent years, the left-back has earned himself other suitors in Mzansi’s top flight, with the likes of Amakhosi and Downs linked with the player for his fine performances for the Urban Warriors.

Although Bucs have also added Paseka Mako, who is also a left-back, to the list of their new signings, the Soweto giants are believed to have not given up on finally landing their target from the Mother City club.

Ajax faces the possibility of campaigning in the National First Division in the new season, as the club is still awaiting a court judgement on the league points they forfeited from their tally of last season.

The Cape side may be forced to try and cash in on the in-demand 25-year-old left-back, as well as on the other stars from the team in their preparation for life in the second tier, should the court decision go against them.

Contacted for comment, Bucs’ Administrative Officer, Floyd Mbele told the Siya crew that he was not aware of any potential move for Lebusa to the Soweto giants.

However, the club official did indeed confirm that Bucs are not yet done with signing new players.

“I’m not aware (about Lebusa), (but) we are not done yet and we are still looking at one or two more signings,” said Mbele.

With the Buccaneers having already confirmed having a squad of around 45 players, the management is awaiting a decision of the technical team regarding the players to be released in order for coach Milutin Sredojevic to be left with a manageable squad.

“The technical team must continue with the pre-season and once they can see what is it that they can work with, they will advise,” confirmed Mbele.

  1. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my
4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but
    I had to tell someone!
