Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has explained what Orlando Pirates’ plan was for the in-form Vincent Pule to start on the bench in their Telkom Knockout match against Chippa United on the weekend.
Pule came on at the start of the second half for Bucs, and the Bafana Bafana player did the job for Sredojevic’s side as he scored the only goal of the match on the 60th minute.
Following some good work from Xola Mlambo, who came running down the right-hand side and played a nice cross into the box, Pule managed to send the ball into the back of the net, while under a lot of pressure from the Chippa goalkeeper and defenders.
Speaking to the media after the match on Saturday, Sredojevic explained that Pule was put on the bench as he had just returned from injury.
“Intentionally, we didn’t put him inside knowing that coming from such an injury we really needed to put the player when the two teams were in a balance to have that player with (the) impact of fresh legs could do the damage and change the game in our favour. He scored that goal,” Sredojevic told the media.
The knee injury that Pule had cost him a place in the Bafana Bafana team that played back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Seychelles, during the recent FIFA international break.
