Platinum Stars strengths and weaknesses

Platinum Stars Football Club has always been the dark horse in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for a few seasons. The team has managed to finish a few season in the top 8 which proves that the team is always campaigning to win the league. The team has managed to build their own philosophy over the years and it is very difficult for the opponents to predict their style of play. Platinum Stars has won a few trophies in the PSL and in some cases they lost some trophies in the final game. The team finished the 2015/16 PSL season in position 3, which shows that they were determined to win the league title. This team has top quality players who are capable of beating any side in the PSL. This team is the only team in the North West province playing in the PSL. They do enjoy support from fans in their province but it is not enough to encourage the players. Let u look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Platinum Stars side.

Strengths

Platinum Stars’ strengths are in their tactical approach (coaching), defense and wingers and their striking force. Their tactical approach is one of the best in the league and most teams are failing to figure out their style of play. Their movement with the ball is phenomenal and very exciting to watch. Their coach Cavin Johnson is very familiar in South African football. He has been in the team for a long time and has managed to implement a few plans regarding the team’s performances in the league.

Their defense is one of the best in the PSL and has managed to protect their goalkeeper in a lot of occasions. The way they defend shows that they work on all defending capabilities in their training. Vuyo Mere, their captain is very experienced and has been in the team for a long time since joining them. Gumede is also vital in the centre of defense alongside Sithole. The 2 centre backs have managed to stop a lot of attacks from their opponents.

The wingers Madubanya and Kodisang are fast players who form part of the midfield and be able to go to winger positions when the team is attacking. Surprisingly Madubanya is leaving the team.

The striking force of Ndumiso Mabena and Eleazor Rogers has worked wonders for the team. Also Henrico Botes adds the same attack as Rogers whenever he gets the time to play. They can score goals from the supply they receive from their midfielders and wingers. With Rodgers on transfer, Botes will start alongside Mabena if the team will be playing a formation with two strikers.

Weaknesses

The team’s weaknesses are in their goalkeeper, left and right backs and their central midfielders. Their goalkeeper Mzimela still has problems with aerial balls especially corner kicks and set pieces. Most goals conceded by the team are a result of him missing the aerial balls in the box.

Their left and right backs are always caught waiting for opponents to challenge them with the ball. They fail to mark their opponents closely. Vuyo Mere and Zulu are the cause of most goals that the team has conceded in the PSL.

The central midfielders Mathe and Gwabe are always playing very close to each other instead of one of them to stay in the middle and the other to help in attacks and defending. Sometimes they get caught adding the strikers together. Communication between the two is not that well or else they are not quite clear about the instructions given to them by their coach.

Solution to their weaknesses

To minimize their weaknesses, the team has managed to sign quality players for the 2016/17 PSL campaign. The players signed are: Henrico Botes, Steven Hoffman, Katlego Khunou, Tshireletso Lesabane, Sipho Senne, Sphamandla Mlilo, Sphiwe Mnguni, Nhlakanipho Duma, Gift Links, Kamohelo Mathe, Thuto Mphahlele, Thobani Kunene, and Benson Shilongo.

The Platinum Stars team will definitely challenging for the league title in the new season. Also they will be eying a trophy or two.
