Players who are contenders to be leading goal scorers for the 2016/17 PSL season

The PSL new season just took off on Tuesday the 23rd August 2016. The teams played their first official games as well as all the new players who were signed during the off season. With just a single game being played, Pirates is leading the table after collecting maximum points and scoring 3 goals against Arrows. Let us look at the top 4 players who will be contenders for the Lesley Manyathela Golden Award.

  1. Tendai Ndoro

Tendai is a proven goal machine and if possible he can even score 5 goals per game. He recently scored 3 goals against Arrows, which putt him at the top of the leading goal scorers’ list. Tendai has scored goals before and has scored more than one goal in a few games. If he continues to score goals for Pirates, there is no doubt that he will finish as top scorer and also stand a chance to break the record that has been there for far too long.

The advantage that he has is that he played under Muhsin Ertugral at Aces before signing for Pirates and he was scoring goals back then. He has now reunited with Muhsin who will definitely provide him with an opportunity to play at Pirates and also encourage him to score as many goals as possible. Tendai will be Pirates’ main man upfront for the new season. With this kind of a chance, Tendai will not disappoint at all.

  1. Khama Billiat

Khama is also one of the proven goal scorer in the PSL. He has scored a lot of goals for Sundowns and he still has a lot of potential in front of goals. He is also vital in Sundowns’ CAF Champions League campaign which will also help sharpen his scoring touches for the PSL campaign. If Khama does not leave South African football and Sundowns, he will definitely be challenging for the leading goal scorer award.

The advantage that Khama has at Sundowns is that he has managed to build an understanding with fellow team mates Leonardo Castro and Keagan Dolly, on which they complete a formation called “CBD”. With a form that he showed us last season, Khama will definitely be one of the contenders for the award.

  1. Leonardo Castro

Castro can score goals from nowhere and he has great control of the ball. He has scored a lot of vital goals for Sundowns since arriving from Columbia. He has managed to build an understanding alongside fellow team mates Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly. The link that Thlompho Kekana provides the 3 of them is of great importance.

The advantage that Castro has at the moment is that he has managed to get his family to come to live with him in South Africa for the duration of his contract at Sundowns. With his family in full support, he will definitely feel at home and focus more on his job at hand which is scoring goals for Sundowns.

  1. Jerome Brockie

Brockie has scored almost all goals Supersport has managed to score in their last PSL campaign. He has also earned himself a New Zealand national team call up for his goal scoring capabilities. Brockie will be challenging for the award and has all the potential to do so.

The advantage that provides Brockie with a lot of scoring abilities is that he has a great understanding with team mates and the addition of Letsholonyane to the team will also help him get accurate passes that will lead in to goals. Brockie does not give up and he chases every ball that is played upfront and has managed to score a lot of goals from long balls.
